Online Dating

Many teenagers have recently started online dating for either fun or in hopes of something serious even though the other person is usually on the other side of the planet. Online dating can be dangerous because it is easy to lie about your identity. Some signs of people faking their identity could be not wanting to video call, voice call and not revealing much about themselves.

Online cheating is also becoming a common problem because there isn’t really a way to tell what the other person is doing. These relationships statistically last about half as long as an offline relationship, which mean its only 2.9 years on average. On the other hand, offline relationships last about 7.3 years. (Statistics Stated by WikiHow.com)

There are still some good parts to online relationships, since online meetings are one of the most popular ways to meet your future marriage partner, account for a third (32%) of those who has married in the past 2 years up from just one percent in the 1990s and 7 percent in the 2000s. (Stated by marriagefoundation.org.uk)

Online relationships are just as real as offline relationships, face to face. Some people have their own opinions on it and believe that they’re not as important. But if both partners are committed and honest to each other, it can work.

In conclusion, with online dating there are many risks and things to consider as the digital world is a confusing and often misleading place

  1. I do hope young people are aware of the dangers of anything online, especially in relation to meeting people. However, I do realise that online dating does have a huge following and when used for the correct purpose can lead to happy outcomes.
